The Official support for Windows 10 ended in October 2025 (ciclo de vida oficial de Microsoft). Si todavía usas este sistema, no te preocupes: tu ordenador sigue funcionando exactamente igual que ayer. Pero conviene que sepas qué implica este cambio y qué opciones tienes, porque no todas pasan necesariamente por comprar un equipo nuevo.
In this guide, we explain, in plain language, what the end of support means, how to upgrade to Windows 11 step by step and —very importantly— what you can do if your PC no meets the Windows 11 requirements.
What does it mean when Windows 10 reaches the «end of support»?
When an operating system reaches the end of its support cycle, it means that Microsoft stop releasing free updates, particularly those relating to safety. In practice:
- Your Windows 10 it still starts up and works as normal.
- Your programmes and your files they’re still there, nothing disappears.
- What stops coming in are the automatic security patches, which means that, over time, the equipment becomes more prone to faults that are no longer rectified.
To put it another way: it’s not something that needs to be sorted overnight, but now is the time to take your time and decide which path you want to take.
Your three options now
With Windows 10 reaching the end of its support, you essentially have three options, and none of them require you to change your computer:
- Upgrade to Windows 11 for free, if your device is compatible.
- Buy a Windows 11 licence to install it as a clean install or on a computer that doesn’t yet have it.
- Continue using Windows 10 with a genuine licence, especially if your PC does not meet the Windows 11 system requirements.
Let’s look at each one.
Options 1 and 2: upgrade to Windows 11
How to check if your PC is compatible with Windows 11
Windows 11 has certain minimum system requirements that not all computers meet, particularly those manufactured before 2018. The main ones are:
- TPM 2.0 (a security chip that many modern PCs are already fitted with).
- Secure Boot activated.
- A processor on the list of compatible devices by Microsoft.
- At least 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
The easiest way to find out if your device is compatible is to use the free app «PC Health Check» from Microsoft, which tells you in a single click.
How to upgrade to Windows 11, step by step
If your PC is compatible, the process will preserve your programmes and files:
- Make a backup of your important files (just to be on the safe side).
- Go to Home > Settings > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates. If your computer is compatible, you’ll be offered the option to upgrade to Windows 11.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and allow the computer to restart as many times as necessary.
If you’re going to install Windows 11 from scratch or on a new computer, you’ll need a licence. You can choose from our product keys Windows 11 Home, designed for domestic use, and Windows 11 Pro, with additional features for work and business.
Option 3: What if my PC isn’t compatible with Windows 11?
This is the bit that many guides overlook. If your computer does not meet the Windows 11 requirements (it doesn’t have TPM 2.0, the processor isn’t on the list, etc.), You are not obliged to buy a new set.
You can continue to use Windows 10 as normal, and also install or reinstall it using a valid licence whether you’re building a computer, reformatting or reusing one. In our shop, you’ll find licences for Windows 10 Home and from Windows 10 Pro in stock and available for immediate delivery.
It’s a perfectly valid option for anyone whose computer is working well and who doesn’t want to spend money on new hardware just because of a version upgrade.
